RADFORD BUBBLES
Radford Bubbles was a sold-out free community photography project that I was part of as a photographer and as an assistant technician helping installation of the exhibition at the Radford Community Center at Jubliee Cresent and other sites. Produced by Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 we opened up an invitation for the local communities' support bubbles to appear in a new exhibition showing a snapshot of life during the pandemic.
Portrait photographer Fran Monks led a group of local photographers to capture group photos of you and your bubble in a purpose-built studio inside Jubilee Crescent Community Centre created by local theatre set designer and architect-designer Ella Clarke from Coventry.
The photos were offered to the participants to keep as a digital copy for free and may feature in the upcoming Radford Bubbles exhibitions including Naul's Mill Park - Beneath the Trees festival, Coventry City Council Central Library and The Radford Community Centre, creating memories for the future. The exhibition continues at Coventry Transport Museum and beyond.
The photo sessions were free, we had online training provided by Fran Monks via zoom, then onto physical training at the Community Centre when the lockdown was lifted, this included; How to set up equipment, How to use the equipment, What to do with the photographs files and Post Production techniques including using Darktable software.
There is a permanent exhibition on the Jubilee Crescent Community Centre walls of the photographs taken including, painted colour blocks that complement the dichroic film that was applied onto the windows of the centre giving further effects of the iridescent and holographic rainbow bubbles effects you see in the photographs.
Radford Bubbles is led by Jubilee Crescent Community Centre. It forms part of the Love Coventry project, supported by Coventry City of Culture Trust and the National Lottery Community Fund.
My photographs of the couple on their way to the gym with their therapy dog were featured in all the UK City of Culture marketing material including the Summer 2022 brochure.
